(no subject)

[The feed turns on and staring back at the screen is everyone's favorite bitchy councilor Councilor Aenathia. Poised as always, if you look very closely, you might detect just a touch of irritation in her expression.]

Hello everyone, as promised I come here with more information. The Council has just reached a decision regarding investigation of the disappearance of world P-3/4. It has been decided that I, along with Miss Devorah Kebi and Sargent Morrison, will be in charge of our own squads. For those who would be interested in working with me, you need only say so. I look forward to it, and promise you that the Council will appreciate your assistance as well.

Ivan, might I have a moment of your time?

Worried? What do you mean, Councilor?

[Perhaps he'd mistaken anxiety for annoyance.]

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sargent Morrison and Miss Kebi . . . ?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, y-yes, I was aware of that. What I meant was . . . what sort of worries do you have about them?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I'd heard some of the conversations you had with them publicly, Miss Aethania. I hope you don't mind . . . But I guess that explains it pretty well.

. . .

That's pretty serious. It certainly doesn't seem as if Miss Kebi should be trusted, then. It was strange to me to think that she was given so much authority in the first place. But Enforcer Morrison -- It should be alright with him, shouldn't it? He's been working here for . . . hundreds of years, right?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I believe so. I . . . tend to keep everyone's secrets. Most people don't even know I'm keeping their secrets.

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah . . . You have my word, Councilor. I . . . I wouldn't dream of betraying your trust.

[For some reason, Ivan is suddenly slightly afraid. Afraid of the information she's about to disclose, or afraid of something else? He's not sure. But what he does know is that whenever he's about to find out can't be a good thing. Ivan closes his eyes and allows the Psynergy to work.

He begins to sift through the Councilor's mind.]

[Ivan follows along with the memory. It is a novel experience for him -- He is usually only able to delve into thoughts. But, he expects, that would be because no one has ever actively allowed him to view a memory as if recorded on one of those strange devices he had seen here. He is unsurprised when Morrison appears and keeps quiet as the interaction with the mysterious figure takes place. He is more concerned with the label on the gate . . . . . It began with a P or a B. And ended with a 4.

When the memory has concluded, he is silent for a few moments before withdrawing from Aethania's mind.]

. . . I can understand your apprehension, Councilor. And this . . . This was approximately the time when World P3/4 disappeared?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's entirely possible this is a complete coincidence, of course.

[He speaks quietly as well. And Ivan may be naive, but he's not dumb. He makes the next logical step fairly quickly.]

Miss Aethania . . . "If you find anyone in any world you believe to be withholding vital information, I have no qualms about dragging forth the truth, no matter whom it may be." That's what I said earlier, and I stand by it.

Is this what you ask of me?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Ivan is a bit too occupied with his own thoughts to notice, but he responds to her nod with a slow one of his own.]

No. If whatever's going on is because of a person . . . And someone who's known and respected, at that. You couldn't say anything at all.

. . . Alright. I'll do it. I'll find out the truth -- I don't truly believe Sargent Morrison could be responsible for something like this, but either way, he shouldn't be keeping a secret concerning World P3/4 at a time like this. And I'm already pretty well known for being bad about keeping my abilities in check, so there's no reason to suspect me of anything if I accidentally let my mind wander.

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine, Councilor. This is for the sake of a whole world, after all . . . Even if it turns out you were wrong, I'm sure it's right to investigate.

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He wonders whether it is appropriate to be surprised that she has a child before deciding that it would be alright. Regardless, he allows himself to be patted.]

Aha, thank you. You have a daughter . . . ? Do you mind if I ask what world you're from, Councilor?

[identity profile] anemos-enigma.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ah . . . That's too bad. I guess with the emergency, you never did get a chance to go home to see your family that night.

[And though she hadn't asked, he offered anyway.]

I'm from Weyard -- Contigo, I'm told, though I was raised in Kalay. Your world sounds very . . . beautiful. Even the names are lyrical.
