It doesn't look like I'm going to get in on any part of the planning, so I think I'm going to get some training done. The political side of things isn't something I have any experience at, nor is it something I want any part of whatsoever. So instead I'm going to make sure I'm ready to do what I can do. I'll be in the Sim Chamber if anyone wants me. If you want to join me, go ahead -- I'll actually encourage it, so that way we can work on some teamwork.

[Shortly after his message, Ike can be found in the sim chamber. He's fighting a mix of enemies from his own world -- swordsmen, axemen, soldiers, cavaliers, heavily-armored knights, mages, beasts, birds. Sometimes he squares off against several, other times just one. He gets injured from time to time, but any time he does get injured, he pulls out a vulnerary and uses it. You are free to watch or interrupt him.]

I seem to recall thou wished to practice sword-play?

[There's a large walking talking frog watching you by the doorway.]

[Which is something Ike is highly unaccustomed to.]

...Uh. What.

Perhaps thou dost not recall? Some time ago we spoke on the subject of swordplay.

Wha--oh. Oh! Right. Sorry.

*sigh*

Go ahead and ask. Everyone does eventually.

I'm really sorry. Father tried to drill manners into me, but sometimes I still slip up. If you're uncomfortable, I won't ask.

The short version of the tale is "A wizard did it."

'Tis a chapter of my life I do not allow myself to dwell on more than is needed. I came here for practice.

[He has a blunted practice sword with him.]

Sure. I'm game. Just let me get my trainer out of my bag here and I'll be set.

[He wait patiently for Ike to get ready, then salutes him with his blade when Ike is prepared.]

[Ike does likewise, then dashes in and launches a downward slash. The sword is light, but there's still quite a bit of force behind the strike.]

[Frog brings his sword up to an angled block, causing Ike's sword to slide off to one side, then leaps in closer to get inside the reach of Ike's longer blade with a ponderous but powerful swing to the side of the torso.]

[Ike parries the blow, but the weight of Frog's sword forces him to yield ground in order to avoid a hit. He then pulls his sword back and lets loose a horizontal slash.]

[Frog leaps above the blow. He's good at jumping, after all. After a crystallized moment where he seems to float at the top of his jump, he comes back down with an overhead slash at Ike's shoulder.]

[Ike spins out of the way, then uses his momentum to augment another lateral slash.]

[Frog barely manages to get his sword up in time and staggers a step back from the hit. However he is fast to regain his footing and is quickly in a defensive stance to counter whatever Ike throws at him next.]

[Ike can tell. He launches a feint in the form of a stab, but quickly pulls it back.]

[Ike's feint is seen through and not responded to. A stalemate continues.]

[Ike moves in, this time with a vertical slash, but he's being very deliberate with his actions.]

[Frog neatly steps to Ike's right, spinning around to bring his sword at Ike's ribs with a backhand swing.]

[Ike quickly rotates the sword back to parry the blow, but doesn't manage to stop it completely -- just enough to get away from it with some minor pain. He then throws an upwards slash.]

[Frog seems to be having trouble keeping up with Ike's movements, and this is when it comes to a finale. Frog tries to bring his sword around to a guard, but isn't quite fast enough and is struck along the chest. He staggers back, winded.]

Augh! Well hit sir Ike, well hit indeed.

Thanks, but I think luck was on my side this time.

Do not sell thineself short. Thou hast a real talent with the blade, although that sword seems light for a proper practice blade.

It's my trainer from back when Father was still teaching me how to fight. I've since been using heavier swords.

I hath always found it wise to make training for battle harder than the battle itself. See for thineself.

[He offers his own sword to Ike, who will find it weighs twice what a sword that size has any business weighing.]
