Ninth -- Thirty First Birthday Party

[For the last few days, Lachesis has been scarce within the compound.  Despite the excitement over the integration of Aethr, something perhaps equally important has been on her mind.  Every now and then, she can be seen running down the hall carrying a bundle of something or another; more often, she can be found entering and exiting the Gate Compound repeatedly, looking worn out, yet pleased.

Nearer to 5:00 in the afternoon, she has changed out of her armor for once and sits in the lounge in an attractive red and gold dress, nervously flipping through the television channels and looking at the clock every five seconds or so.

And at 5:30. . . ]

[voice, to Lockon]
Oh, Lyle . . . I am sorry the day's fallen simultaneously with such an important event.  If you'd prefer to join the party in Aethr, I understand.  We can do something nice just as well tomorrow.  It's your birthday, after all.

No way. I've been looking forward to this for the past week. I can check things out in Aethr whenever I want, but my birthday only happens once a year.

[Oh hey, it's Chika walking through the area. And she's holding a yellow blob baby digimon in her arms.]

Ah. I'm glad . . . Then, perhaps, would you care to join me on the grounds in 10 minutes?

[Lachesis is carrying what appears to be a tray covered by a sheet of something or another.]

Oh, Chika! It's been some time. How have you been?

I've been good! Ended up having to take care of this little guy here when the one who took his egg out of the Digital World left, but other than that things have been kinda normal.

How's Metal Koromon doing?

[She tries to lean forward over her tray to look at the Digimon, then smiles.]

Does he have a name?

MetalKoromon is doing very well, actually. I feel so silly saying this, but I almost think he's grown up a bit . . .

Well, other than his species name of Zurumon, no. Since he'll evolve soon enough and start speaking, giving him one right now didn't seem smart. I'm not going to be keeping him forever after all, just until he's old enough to take care of himself.

[She giggles a bit.]

Aww, he probably has, actually.

[Ten minutes later, he shows up. He's wearing a polo shirt and khakis.]

[She's waiting for him outside the main entrance, turning to smile as he approaches. The sun is setting. It's a pretty nice day, as is normal, in Confuto . . . ]

He almost seemed to understand me when I told him what I'd be doing tonight.

[Chika positively beams at that.]

Wow. That is a bit weird. He might evolve soon...

. . . I'm not too certain about that, actually. What's entailed in that process, again?

Well... he's going to get a lot bigger and his form will completely change. And he should start being able to talk too...

No, it isn't... even if it's probably not possible. He needs to grow up sometime, after all.

No trouble at all. It's the least I could do after all the time you've spent on me.

[She walks to him now, slipping her arm into his and gesturing with her right hand.]

I suppose all creatures must. Ah, I'm growing fond of a . . . pet his size, though.

He's not exactly going to be a pet when he's older though...

. . . I've read a little more about your world and the other worlds naturally connected to it. Is there a reason why Digimon choose to partner with human beings?

[And so she leads him around the corner, down a path, heading into a more isolated area of the grounds.

Oh, my. What is this? A table set for two? Carefully positioned with both seats angled away from the sun so as not to be blinded? Covered with dish upon steaming dish? Who could have done something like this.]

To fight against other digimon that end up on Earth. At least, those with a partner aren't affected by the emotions of everyone around them that causes them to go crazy.

It seems to be easier for them here in CO though...
