[OVER VARIOUS COMPETITORS' PDAS, EXCLUDING GENSOKYO RESIDENTS]

All right, competitors. We will be fighting against each other in the ring, but until that moment, I am still your ally, and I wish to see you all fighting your best. Therefore, I am offering a quick crash course in creating and using your own spellcards. I would highly recommend taking this, as I will not be offering an other opportunity. Feel free to swing by the Simulation Chamber in the next few hours, and I will do what I can.

One competitor, at least, has already joined up; Kitaro can be seeing trying out some patterns, though they're still obviously not very high quality. Observers might note he's slightly tense around Ran, though Ran is doing her best in spite of it as far as coaching him.

That's very impressive, Raidou-san. I wish I could say the same about my own attacks.

Perhaps, but that's a good start. If you can focus those explosions to send out further smaller bullets, that could cause a real crimp in the opponent's plans.

Umm... maybe. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. The whole spellcard thing seems to be a little confusing...

Right, though in simpler battles, it's just a demonstration of skill, it's a vital ability.

So it would help to focus on number rather then size? Amazing!

[NiGHTS had seen ballons that were bigger then him before, but he had a feeling that he wasn't quite powerful enough to do something like that. Actually, Ran's suggestion was probably a good idea.]

Essentially, yes. Showing off, as you will. I find it rather foolhardy myself.

Size can be utilized, but number is typically better, and capable of much more graceful patterns. I have heard of size being used very effectively, however. Lady Yukari told me once the Hell Raven of the Underground used quite large danmaku in her attacks.

Hmm. So that is how you are manifesting your patterns. It's surprisingly effective.

You might be better off sticking to one. I would assume that even as danmaku, they are asserting their own personalities. Although... do you have any which are notably compatible with each other?

Well, I guess first I should learn about how often, or I guess how powerful the moves for them are supposed to be. I... couldn't really figure out from what I read about the tournament about how often the attacks were spell cards or not...

[Sunny stumbles a bit due to trying to act too confident to compensate for how unconfident she feels as she enters.]

Well, you should space them out to a certain extent. You can only use each card once per battle, after all. Use standard bullet sprays otherwise. That said, it is better to use them and win than to not use them and lose, if you understand what I mean.

Some spellcards are very powerful, some not. The most basic rule of conduct is that they should at least provide a chance for the opponent to dodge, but beyond that anything goes.

Aren't spell cards supposed to be graceful? It hardly seems right to do something aside from that.

All right, I shall begin.

Danmaku is a form of fighting that relies just as much on aesthetics as it does on power. Specifically designed not to cause fatal harm, the goal is to wear down the opponent, and ensure they run out of spellcards before you run out of yours. You must also bear in mind that flight is common in Gensokyo, so you must consider every axis on the plane in your attacks. Would you like a demonstration?

Theoretically, but some people aren't exactly graceful people.

Oh, I see... I guess this card may or may not be good then. I mean, they should be able to dodge it if they're not hit by the magic binds first, but after that...
