All right, competitors. We will be fighting against each other in the ring, but until that moment, I am still your ally, and I wish to see you all fighting your best. Therefore, I am offering a quick crash course in creating and using your own spellcards. I would highly recommend taking this, as I will not be offering an other opportunity. Feel free to swing by the Simulation Chamber in the next few hours, and I will do what I can.

One competitor, at least, has already joined up; Kitaro can be seeing trying out some patterns, though they're still obviously not very high quality. Observers might note he's slightly tense around Ran, though Ran is doing her best in spite of it as far as coaching him.

Ah yes, it was a situation much like this one, was it not! How nostalgic. But I hope you haven't become rusty with your year away. You are fortunate to be paired up with one such as Reisen; no doubt she will assist you well.

I've spent a bit of time in Gensokyo preparing, but I think I could use a bit of help.

[Meryl's patterns were dense, but they were pretty gritty and ascetically unpleasing. On top of that, she didn't even bother covering above and behind her. As it stood, she was too worried about wasting bullets.]

Hmm, your forward attack is good, but you're not covering the air above you or behind you at all. Any savvy attacker would simply camp out behind you and attack from there. Danmaku requires you to cover as much area as possible.

[Though NiGHTS tried making patterns with his sparkle dust, it was quite ineffective. Instead, he went back to using his paraloop ability, and was sucking in debris in an ascetically pleasing fashion in no time.]

[Meryl knew that a soldier needed to adapt to their surroundings, but there was still a nagging voice in the back of her head that said "don't waste those bullets!" She attempted to ignore those instincts and fire in more directions.

The field was considerably less dense this time, but the bare spots in her pattern were much smaller, if not somewhat unevenly spaced. You don't have time to worry about geometric perfection on the battlefield. =\ ]

Ah, yes, that's an improvement. Not the most attractive in the world, but in the end it really is more important to win than it is to dazzle. Remember, you are fighting in a three-dimensional space; attacks can come from any direction.

Oh, that's quite an interesting technique you are using there! And that speed will certainly increase the difficulty of your getting hit in return. Very impressive!

She makes a note not to memorize; no sense in developing an advantage too early.

Still, at some point you will need to generate your own attacks. There is only so much extraneous debris, after all.

[Meryl had made a few attempts at grazing, and she went through a lot of tank tops doing so. She should have learned her lesson about flirting with danger from Shadow Moses, but she was too much of a showoff.]

[Raidou decided to go ahead and practice. He decided to see how his demons powers would be transform. The bullets are in several shades of green with yellows, rose, and whites scattered - the pattern is very flower like with 'spears' of light blasting through the middle. This was after six previous attempts.

Then he tried calling on a second demon-turned spellcard - there's a rush of flames, and then a loud pop as he faceplants, the bullets disappearing as he no longer could maintain it with that little stunt]

Essentially, yes. It takes skill to do it without letting the bullet hit you too hard, but it's essential when dealing with the most elaborate patterns.

I see. Shall I go over the details, then?

It's fairly simple. The proper method in a dual is to announce the card before channeling your energy into it, activating it. The announcement is more for the sake of your opponent than anything, although there is an odd sort of exhilaration that can come from it.

The most important thing in designing a card is, to the best of your ability, cover your weak spots, but not so much as to make it impossible for an opponent to maneuver. It's more sporting that way. From there, it's up to the skill of your opponent.

[NiGHTS was new at this, but he'd have to try and use an attack like theirs. He thought back to his fight with Reala, and how his brother had managed to summon those baloons. Maybe he could do something like that too?]

[He tried his hardest, and soccer-ball sized purple orbs rained down from the sky and exploded as they hit the ground. The attack was weak, but surely he could develop this a bit more.]

Well, it looks like I just need to practice a bit more.
