Okay, so Ragna ended up being a major bust. "Destroy the world?" Really? I know Hazama seems like a really bad guy, but that just seems like a MASSIVE overstatement. I don't think the guy's too stable himself. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if I notice anything for now. Though that bit about messing with people...

I know I should do something to fix the situation with Edgeworth, but I'm not sure I can face it yet. Maybe I should actually do a job for once. This board is packed with them -- eh? What's this?

He pulls one off.

"Help wanted: Lawyer needed -- to help prove me guilty?!" What the hell?

He shows her the job in question.

Oh... this person sounds very admirable. She must have a very strong sense of responsibility.

Not so much. Apparently, someone's stealing the credit and this person wants a lawyer to find the OTHER guy INNOCENT so he or she can "claim the felony." It's apparently less responsibility as a case of "somebody kill stealing."

But this person... um... doesn't want another going to jail because of what he or she did, correct?

Judging by the repeated use of certain slurs to the other party's lineage, I kind of doubt it's that benevolent.

Maybe this person is just bad at expressing himself?

...why would they want their guilt proven otherwise?

Danged if I know. It's weird. I'm almost tempted to take this one just to find out what's going on.

You wouldn't think so, but... Let's see. "Some bastard is taking credit for my crime! I can't beat him up over it, because I'd only get credit for that felony! Help me prove the bastard's innocent so I can get my felony!" What kind of messed up system IS this?

In a way, I think if more people were like this, the judicial system's work would be far, far easier. Don't you think?

Maybe, but if you notice, it's basically just a reversal of how it usually works. He's claimed to be innocent and wants to be proven guilty. Which is just sort of WEIRD.

"What's shakin', phoenix?"

Sonic passes behind him, and gets a look at the job posting in his hand.

"...Wow. Either that guy's got some kinda complex, or the legal system is really screwy in that world."

It's gotta be some messed up quirk of the system. There's no reason anybody should have to prove another guy innocent so they can be declared guilty. If it were a normal system, they'd just have to confess, and that'd end it. Or if they were both claiming guilt, they'd just keep the investigation open. There's no reason to go to court to DEFEND your guilt.

The Hedgehog seems to ponder this, tapping a foot.

"...Maybe it's for bragging rights! You know how people argue over bets and stuff? Maybe that's why they need to have someone prove they did what they did! Somehow they need the recognition that they did it, even though it was technically illegal."

I guess, but why would they need a lawyer? It seems like it'd be easy enough to settle just duking it out if it's like that. And they specifically referred to it as a "felony..."

He shrugs. "Circumstances can get to be pretty weird sometimes. What world is that job in, anyway?"

The last he calls to the side as he steps up to the boards himself, squinting up at the million tiny fliers with even tinier print. "Same ol' same ol'. 'Uniform designer', 'Castle-sitter', 'Cafe server', huh, what's this one?"

He lifts one down. "'Run catering service during filming highly-accurate historial fiction motion picture'-- who calls it a motion picture anymore 'Must be focused and able to multitask. Must be able to lift fifteen pounds or more, must not be allergic to peanuts, shellfish or orcs. Must be able to run to avoid being eaten by dragon. Must not be sensitive to artifacts and objects of power. Must be morally tolerant of serving demons... lunch. Archery skills helpful, but not necessary. Nonsmoker preferred.'"

Uh, "The Netherworld," apparently. Sounds ominous.

..."avoid being eaten by dragon?" "Not sensitive to artifacts and objects of power?" Where the hell is THAT job taking place?

"Not sure. Just says 'Middle Earth.' I didn't realize there was an upper or a lower Earth, come to think of it. Weird."

He tacks it back on the wall.

"You got anything else over there?"

I think this is the one I'm most qualified for, even it if it is completely bass-akwards. Not that I'm particularly reassured by it.

"Cool, then go to it! You'll figure out the details later." He adds with a grin.

"...'Assistant Dungeon Designer?' Too exacting. 'Pokemon Breeder?' Aw no way I'm doing that again..."

They have really weird jobs here when they're not expressly saving the multiverse, I've noticed.

... who's the client...? Does it say why he wants to be found guilty?

Looks like someone named, uh, "Berza?" Um... I think this is the gate code for "The Netherworld," if I recall my codes right.

Oh, the Netherworld? Demons do like being "evil" and stuff, so...

I guess I should've figured from "Netherworld." Suddenly I'm even less sure taking this job is a good idea.

Just get Raspberyl and Kyoko to go with you, and you should be fine. They're delinquents, in the demonic sense of the word.
