[If you're wandering around at night for whatever reason, you might feel a chill run down your spine as everything suddenly feels darker than usual around you.

Down the corridor in the distance is a strange... Shadow. No other word can really describe it. Is this just some sort of Halloween prank? Or is it something more sinister?]

((OOC: A few people have already plotted ahead how this will go, but feel free to have any of your wayward characters spot this thing. But keep in mind, directly confronting it will go very badly at this stage. Flight is recommended.))

[Meiling's internal clock basically doesn't exist anyways, so she happens to be going for a midnight... er... early breakfast?

She's not really sure what you call noodles at 3 a.m., but she's getting those until she feels something... strange. Something definitely not good. Her head whips around, and she spots something dark. Dark and not really anything else.

As she catches the Shadow's attention, it seems to slowly be getting closer to her. How exactly it is moving is unclear... but its presence just seems to be getting stronger and stronger as it nears.]

[...normally, big scary creatures don't scare Meiling all that much, as long as she's somewhere she has her youkai abilities and chi. But something about this feels more absolutely awful than anything she can remember.

She backs away quickly, not taking her eyes off the shadow.]

[The Shadow's movement remains rather slow and ambling... but Meiling may feel her own movements feeling a little slower, as the air itself around her seems heavier. Or it may simply be a powerful wave of fear trying to overwhelm her.]

[Everything about this... this darkness is just wrong. Nothing natural should feel like this.

It's scarier than a raging Flandre Scarlet in many ways, and the only thing that seems at all reasonable is running away.]

[She sends out a wave of chi, hopefully enough to deter it from chasing her, and hauls ass anywhere that isn't here.]

[The wave of chi had its desired effect, stalling the thing's movements.

Whether it intended to pursue or not was unclear, but as soon as Meiling had gotten far enough away she would simply feel everything return to normal, the sense of unease fading as quickly as it had arisen.]

[Once she finally feels safe, Meiling stops to catch her breath, realizing just how fast her heart is pumping. She's even sweating a little, just from that brief encounter.

If this has something to do with that 'Halloween' thing she might have to hit whoever's world came up with this. If it isn't... people need to be very, very careful.]
